Privacy Policy
Overview
CanadaTaxPlanner (“we”, “our”, “the tool”) is a free Canadian tax calculator designed with privacy as a core principle. Your calculator data stays in your browser unless you create an account and turn on cloud sync, or generate a PDF letter.
1. Data We Collect
1.1 Calculator Data (Local Only)
Your tax profile (income, deductions, family details and savings balances) is saved in your browser’s local storage on this device, so it is still there on your next visit. Calculations run in your browser. We cannot see this data unless you turn on cloud sync. If you generate a T1-ADJ letter, the entries for that letter, including the name you type, are sent to our server to build the PDF.
1.2 Analytics (Cookie-Free)
We use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookie-free analytics service from our hosting provider. It collects:
- Page views (aggregate, not individual)
- Referral source
- Browser and device type (aggregate)
- Country (from IP, which is never stored)
No cookies are set. No personal data is collected. No cross-site tracking occurs.
1.3 Error Tracking
We use Sentry for error monitoring to improve reliability. Sentry is configured with sendDefaultPii: false — no personally identifiable information is ever sent with error reports.
1.4 Account Data (Optional)
If you create an account (optional), we store your email address and encrypted calculator data in Supabase (PostgreSQL with Row Level Security). This enables cloud sync across devices. You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Calculator data: used locally to compute your tax estimates. Never shared.
- Analytics: used in aggregate to understand which features are most useful.
- Error reports: used to fix bugs and improve reliability.
- Account data: used solely to sync your data across your own devices.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party.
3. Data Retention & Deletion
Local data: Persists until you clear your browser data or use the “Reset All Data” option in Settings.
Account data: Retained while your account is active. You may request deletion at any time. Send your request through the contact form. We will delete all data within 30 days of your request.
Access, correction and deletion: You have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. Send these requests through the contact form. We will respond within 30 days.
4. Third-Party Services

5. PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25
We comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). In particular:
- Consent: We only collect data you explicitly provide. No implicit tracking.
- Purpose: Data is used solely for the stated purpose (tax calculations, cloud sync).
- Access: You can view, export and delete the data saved in your browser in Settings. For account data, ask us to access, correct or delete it.
- Safeguards: Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest (Supabase encryption).
- Accountability: Viacheslav Sytnikov is responsible for privacy questions. Reach them through the contact form.
Quebec Law 25: If you live in Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, also applies. The person in charge of the protection of personal information is Viacheslav Sytnikov. You have the right to access your personal information, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Send these requests through the contact form. We will answer within 30 days.
6. Cookies
We use only necessary cookies: your sign-in session and your cookie choice. Analytics is cookie-free. Calculator data is stored in localStorage, which is not a cookie.
7. Children’s Privacy
Our service is not directed at individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
